Stuck on a board? The solver marks every cell that is provably safe or provably a mine.

What is Minesweeper?

Minesweeper is the classic logic puzzle: a grid hides a fixed number of mines, and every revealed number tells you how many mines touch that cell. Clear every safe cell to win. This version runs entirely in your browser with three standard board sizes, a daily challenge, a pattern trainer, and a No-Guess mode that is verified board by board before you play.

How to play

Your first click is always safe. Revealed numbers count the mines in the eight surrounding cells, and empty cells open their neighbours automatically. Flag the cells you have proved are mines so you can count the remaining ones. When a number already touches exactly that many flags, click it to open every other neighbour at once. You win when every non-mine cell is revealed; you lose the moment you open a mine.

No-Guess mode

Most Minesweeper boards eventually reach a 50/50: two layouts fit every visible number, so no amount of logic can separate them. No-Guess mode generates a board, runs a logic solver over it, and throws the board away unless the solver can clear it using deduction alone. Every No-Guess board on this page is therefore solvable without a coin flip, and the Hint button can always find a provable move.

Daily challenge and pattern trainer

The daily challenge gives every player the same board for each difficulty, already opened at the centre so the start is identical. Finish it and you can copy a compact result to share. The pattern trainer is a separate drill: it shows a small position and asks you to tap a cell you can prove is a mine or safe, then explains the rule behind the answer. It is the fastest way to learn 1-2-1, 1-2-2-1, and the other wall patterns.

Challenge a friend to the same board

After any run, the result card has a Challenge link button. It copies a URL that carries the board's seed and opening click, so whoever opens it plays the exact same mine layout rather than a similar one. That makes a shared time comparable: both players start from the same opening and the same 3BV. The link works without an account, and it is the honest way to settle who is actually faster.

What makes this version different

The board is generated in your browser, statistics stay on your device, and nothing is uploaded. Cells are sized to fit the window, long-press works for flags on touch screens, and the timer, mine counter, 3BV, and 3BV/s give you something concrete to improve. There is no account, no download, and no ad covering the board.

Controls

  • Click or tap a covered cell to reveal it
  • Right-click, long-press, or use Flag mode to place a flag
  • Click a revealed number to chord: open every remaining neighbour when the flags match
  • Arrow keys move, Space reveals, F flags, R restarts
  • Hint highlights one cell that is provably safe

Tips for a better run

  1. 01Your first click is safe, so use it to open a large area rather than to test a guess.
  2. 02Count with the mine counter: it shows mines minus flags, so wrong flags will mislead you.
  3. 03Learn to chord early. Clicking a satisfied number clears its neighbours far faster than opening cells one by one.
  4. 04On No-Guess boards, if you are stuck the answer exists — use Hint instead of guessing.
  5. 05When two cells look identical, look one row further out; the deciding constraint is often a neighbour you ignored.
  6. 06Track 3BV/s rather than raw time when you want to measure real improvement between board sizes.
  7. 07Use the Challenge link after a good run: the link replays the identical board, so the comparison is fair.

Frequently asked questions

Is Minesweeper free to play here?+

Yes. The game runs entirely in your browser with no account, download, or payment.

How do you play Minesweeper?+

Click a cell to reveal it. Numbers show how many mines touch that cell. Flag the mines you identify, and reveal every cell that is not a mine to win. Opening a mine ends the run.

What is No-Guess mode in Minesweeper?+

No-Guess mode only gives you boards that a logic solver can clear without guessing. Each generated board is tested first, so you never reach a position where two layouts are equally valid.

What is a 50/50 in Minesweeper?+

A 50/50 is a position where the visible numbers fit two different mine layouts and nothing distinguishes them. It cannot be solved by logic, only guessed. No-Guess mode removes these boards.

What does the Hint button do?+

Hint runs the same logic solver used for No-Guess generation and highlights one cell that is provably safe in the current position. It never reveals a mine.

Is there a daily Minesweeper challenge?+

Yes. Each difficulty has one daily board, identical for every player and opened at the centre so everyone starts from the same position. You can copy a result to share after finishing.

Can I send a friend the same Minesweeper board?+

Yes. After a run, choose Challenge link on the result card. The copied URL contains the board seed and opening click, so your friend plays the exact same layout and you can compare times and 3BV directly.

Does the game save my progress?+

Best times, win rates, streaks, and daily results are stored in your browser's local storage. A board that is still in progress is not saved, so finish a run in one sitting.

Can I play Minesweeper on my phone?+

Yes. Tap to reveal, long-press to flag, or turn on Flag mode for one-tap flags. Boards scale to the screen, and the Expert board scrolls sideways on narrow phones.

What is 3BV?+

3BV is the minimum number of left clicks needed to clear a board. Dividing it by your time gives 3BV/s, a measure of solving speed that is comparable across board sizes.

Is this the same as the Windows Minesweeper?+

It is an independent browser version inspired by the classic game. It is not affiliated with Microsoft or any official Minesweeper release.
